A few of our regular, ongoing events:
Park Days
Park Days are held weekly. This event is open to all ages. Yes, teens are welcome and often attend! While it is usually held at a local park, it may be moved indoors during rainy or extremely hot days. If meeting at the park, we suggest bringing a chair.
Teen Late Lunch
Once a month our teens get together for an afternoon of fun and fellowship. The location changes each month.
Skate Days
Families meet for skating every month and yes, we definitely think you can count that as P.E.! Hang around and enjoy some fellowship while your kids get some energy out and have a blast with their new friends.
Springer and Rivercenter Shows
Discounted tickets are available for homeschool families to the Springer or Rivercenter shows. LIGHT will coordinate sign-ups and trips to kid-friendly shows as one of our many field trip opportunities.
Christmas Parties
Elementary, middle school, and high school groups have a Christmas party each December.
ITBS Testing
In Georgia, homeschool parents are required to have their students tested every three years beginning in third grade. To help you fulfill this requirement, LIGHT organizes testing using The Iowa Test of Basic Skills® (ITBS®). The ITBS® is a nationally standardized achievement test for K-12 students. LIGHT now encourages online testing available through several different companies. Additional information is sent out during the spring.
Yearbook
LIGHT has a yearbook for all students K-12. In fact, younger students often make the pages because let’s be honest: they are learning too! School portraits are scheduled in the fall, but we encourage you to submit photos throughout the year. You can submit photos online of sporting events, field trips, special occasions, or even family vacations.
Mom’s Night Out
You work hard every day to ensure your children get a great education, and we think you deserve a break! Leave those kids at home and join us for a fun night out. Locations change, but the laughs and sweet fellowship are always waiting at these Monday night outings. Whether you are a seasoned homeschooler or brand new, there is a place at the table for you!
This is certainly not an exhaustive list. In addition, there are groups for Pre-K, Elementary, Middle School, and High School that all plan activities. You will also find plenty of field trips that the whole family will enjoy. Teens have special events such as a fall dance, prom, and graduation. Kindergarten students have a graduation because learning to read is hard work and frankly, they look really cute in those caps and gowns!
As you can see, there are plenty of chances to get involved!
